Unable to activate StoragePoint License online

Summary :Licensing > This article describes how to resolve an error message when activating the StoragePoint license key or when running the StoragePoint License Verification Timer Job.,

Symptom

• The StoragePoint License Verification Timer Job fails each day
• Attempting to click the "Activate Online" option within the StoragePoint License Management page results in an error, which is visible in the UI and in the ULS logs:

  The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

The server running the StoragePoint License Verification Timer Job is not allowing communication to the Metalogix License Servers.

The license feature will attempt to connect to the Metalogix server at https://license.metalogix.com/license/licenseservice.asmx on port 443 so make sure that it is allowed through the environment's firewall. Once that is done, test the activation, but it may fail with errors when making the SSL/TSL connection or with certificate validation errors. These can occur if certificates are missing in the local computer's Trusted Root and Intermediate Certification Authorities store or in the SharePoint Trusted Relationships.

1. Click Start > Run, and then type mmc.exe.
2. Right-click on the file and select Run as administrator.
3. Click File > Add/Remove Snap-In.
4. On the Available snap-ins section, select Certificates, and then click Add.
5. On the Certificates snap-in window, select Computer Account, and then click Next.
6. Select Local Computer, and then click Finish > OK.
7. Expand Certificates (Local Computer) > Trusted Root Certification Authorities, and then click Certificates.
8. Make sure the following certificates are added:

   Thumbprint:  ?27 96 ba e6 3f 18 01 e2 77 26 1b a0 d7 77 70 02 8f 20 ee e4

9. Open the SharePoint Central Administration > Security > Manage Trust.
10. Click New and name them "Go Daddy Class 2 Certification Authority" and "Go Daddy Secure Certification Authority".
11. Upload the associated certificate and leave "Provide Trust Relationship" blank.
12. Click OK.
