I get the following informational messages on spotlight for the selected SQL Servers:
"Collection 'Support Services' failed : Collection 'General Counters' failed : A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded."
Microsoft security settings blocking access to specific services.
Development has done a fair bit of research about this and found that it’s all fairly undocumented. There is however the following article by a Microsoft MVP talking about modifying security for an individual service.
While his article is fairly hard going, it does seem to cover the information that is required.

The particular permission you are after is LC - SERVICE_QUERY_STATUS - ask the SCM for the service's current status.
