A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority (4281740)

During the ControlPoint discovery process, the error message below populates the farm server's application event logs:

An operation failed because the following certificate has validation errors:

Subject Name: CN=telemetry.metalogix.com

Errors:

PartialChain: A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority.
RevocationStatusUnknown: The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate.
OfflineRevocation: The revocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline.

Local network or firewall rules prevent the ControlPoint server from communicating with Metalogix's telemetry servers.

1. Open the ControlPoint Configuration Site (e.g. http://servername:1818).
2. Select the ControlPoint Settings List and expand the Special Purpose category.

   

3. Edit the Telemetry parameter and set its value to false.

   

4. Save the parameter.
5. Recycle the ControlPoint application pool in IIS Manager.
