Foglight repository size is growing very rapidly (4277097)

CAUSE 1

Many agents (DB, infrastructure, VM) are configured (100's). The 'Short term' policy template was selected under Dashboards | Management Server | Servers | Data Management; Retention Policy > "Current policy:". 

"Short term" causes MORE data to be kept for a short period of time, and if many agent are configured, this will cause a the repository topology size to increase in a short amout of time.

CAUSE 2

All or many of the DB agents have CUSTOM retention policies defined under "Agent Settings | Administration | Retention Policies

Note: Retention policies determine how long data collections are kept. A longer retention policy increases data granularity, but also increases resource consumption.

RESOLUTION 1

1. Browse to Dashboards | Management Server | Servers | Data Management; Retention Policy section.
2. Reset the template by clicking the drop down and selecting: (Current policy:) Managed Roll-ups.
3. No save is required, and the new retention template takes effect immediately.

2. If entering changes manually via UI, save changes to retain these settings.
