When Toad is launched, database from the TNS names file are not displayed in the TNS tab of the connection screen. Also, the TNSnames Editor button has a red X next to it. The Oracle client is 32-bit.
If Toad is installed in Program Files (x86) folder, then, per Oracle Meta-link (Doc ID 1334528.1), there is a network error that results causing any path with a parenthesis to have an issue.
RESOLUTION 1:
Uninstall Toad and re-install in a new folderother thanthe Program Files (x86) or Program Files directory.
RESOLUTION 2:
if you specify C:\Program Files\Quest Software,Windows 64-bit will still install it intoC:\Program Files (x86). If you must install in the C:\Program Files path, just install into C:\Program Files (x86). Then copy the entire Toad for Oracle folder from the C:\Program Files (x86) folder to C:\Program File.
RESOLUTION 3:
Make sure your Oracle 32-bit client is located in the sameProgram Filesfolder where Toad is installed to.
Issued in observed mainly in Windows 2003 64-bit, but could occur in other Windows 64-bit versions. TNSnames.ora file is located in %Oracle_HomeNetworkAdmin folder.
