What are the criteria for admin mailboxes? Do they need to be granted special permissions? -
Description
In order to carry out public folder, calendar, free/busy & in the case of migrations to Exchange 2010 also mailbox synchronization it is necessary to specify an administrative mailbox. This mailbox is used as a context to gain access to the GAL & PF tree - please refer to product documentation for further details.
What are the criteria for selecting an administrative mailbox? -
Resolution
The admin mailbox should meet the following criteria:
- it should be a separate account from the service account
- it should not participate in any synchronization jobs (it is best to create a new mailbox specifically for this purpose)
- it should be homed on the same Exchange server to which migration is being carried out, or in the case of PF sync it should be on a database that has its default PF store pointing to the same server to which migration is being carried out
- it does not need to be added to any special groups or granted any specific permissions
- it must be possible to access the mailbox using the service account credentials
