Scheduled reports are not working and failing with the error 'An error occurred during local report publishing'

Cause
The main reason to cause this issue, is the selection of the SharePoint sites that the reports are to run against, some of the sites have been deleted.

Resolution
Either edit the schedule job and remove the deleted SharePoint sites.
Or set the schedule job to inactive or delete the job, then create a brand new schedule job.
