How long should I wait for the Index Recommendation to complete? (4270609)

Using the Index Recommendation is taking a long time to complete.
How does one know if it still functioning properly or if the process is hanging? 

With respect to how long to wait for index recommendation to complete, use SQL Tracker to tell if SQL Optimizer is doing anything.

When the application is working, it will send SQL to the database and one should see SQL Tracker updated with the new SQL.

If is determined that SQL Tracker is not showing any new SQL for more than one hour then it should be time to stop and send back the log.
This is assuming that you use the Index button to repeat the problem.
