The installation is corrupted, and there is no alternative other than to entirely uninstall the Spotlight clients, and re-install.
Steps;
1. Use Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to uninstall all Spotlight clients, which will probably be named similarly to:
- Spotlight on SQL Server
- Spotlight on Oracle, Oracle RAC
Note that there is no need to uninstall the Diagnostic Server, wherever it is running.
2. Delete the folder: C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Spotlight Enterprise. Default installation folder.
3. Delete the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\Spotlight
This folder contains configuration data (in a sub-directory "Default") for the Spotlight installation that has been corrupted.
4. Now re-run the Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise 7.0.1 installer. Select to only install the Spotlight client. You can choose your directory, either the default value, or "Spotlight Enterprise" as desired.
5. Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise should now be operational again. You may need to specify the location of the Diagnostic Server.
6. If you want to install another Spotlight product for example Spotlight on Oracle, run the Spotlight on Oracle installer. Depending on the precise client environment, you will possibly get a dialog saying "Simple" or "Advanced" installation. If so, select "Advanced". You may also get a dialog saying "New installation" or "Existing installation". If so select "New installation". Probably, neither of these dialogues will be displayed, and you will simply get a default directory path to install into, probably ...\Quest Software\Spotlight. The key point is to choose a directory DIFFERENT to the Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise install directory. Complete the installation.
8. You should now have two Spotlights installed: SoSSE at ...\Quest Software\Spotlight Enterprise (for example), and SoO at ...\Quest Software\Spotlight for example. They should both work independently of each other. You may need to manually create Desktop shortcuts for the exe, which in both cases is ...\Console\Spotlight.exe in the installation directory.
