Description

Users reviewing the installation documentation may see that Toad for IBM DB2 provides limited support for DB2 for z/OS subsystems without installing the z/OS components and want to understand what functionality remains available.
Cause

The DB2 for z/OS components enable advanced subsystem management features. Without these components, Toad operates with base functionality, and certain z/OS-specific administrative capabilities are not available.
Resolution
When the DB2 for z/OS components are installed, Toad enables the following advanced functionalities:
- Bind and rebind packages and plans
- Invoke utilities and commands within scripts generated by advanced alter and migration tools
- Run stand-alone IBM DB2 utilities
- Execute IBM DB2 for z/OS commands from the Editor
- Remotely execute IBM DB2 for z/OS scripts
- Create, alter, or drop dataset templates
- Run DISPLAY, START, and STOP commands on databases, tablespaces, and indexes
- Access buffer pool information
- View available storage volumes
- Monitor active threads connected to the subsystem
- Assign RACF groups to Toad Security roles
✅ Without the z/OS components installed:
- These specific z/OS subsystem management features are not available
- All other standard Toad functionality continues to work
