When migrating Exchange mailboxes with stripped (stubbed) messages to a different Exchange server, the message reconstruction causes the Exchange database to grow rapidly.
Is it possible to migrate the stripped (stubbed) messages as they are (without having to reconstruct them prior to the migration)?
Logically, if the migration tools/solution such as Microsoft Exchange Migration tool can migrate all of the properties of a mail item, then it should work. However, this has never been tested and we do not know if certain properties might be missed, particularly the properties created specifically by Archive Manager during archiving.
As with all untested scenarios, this is unsupported by Archive Manager.
Recommendation by Professional Services team:
Using Quest Migration Manager for Exchange for the migration, the stripped (stubbed) messages are transferred to the target mailbox "as is" without message reconstruction. The target AD can then be added in Archive Manager and there are specific SQL scripts that can be used to map the existing users' archives in Archive Manager to the new AD accounts/mailboxes.
Nevertheless, this obviously will be a PSO engagement.
