When I search from global search and search from vmExplorer dashboard, I got duplicate entry for ESX server and VM Virtual Machine
ESXs and VMs get entries in both the Host Model and the VMware model. So when you do a global search on a name, you get a result for each model. This is operating as expected.
In the vmExplorer treeview, an ESX is actually listed twice in the tree organization. Once under the ESX folder and once under the cluster it belongs to. The search function is searching the treeview. Since it is in the tree twice, it shows up twice in the search results. This could be considered a bug or a subject for enhancement, but the main point is that the objects don’t actually exist twice; they are just in the tree twice due to the way it is organized.
WOKAROUND:
This is normal and by design
Enhancement request has been filed on this issue, to either not populate the host object under global search orelse load the vmExplorer dashboard with data, when the host object is selected from global search on an ESX Host or Virtual Machine object.
