ERROR: "A Agent Manager is already running from the $FGLAM_HOME/state/default directory" -
Description
Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM) is not starting up after upgrade. The following errors appear in the log file:
2014-06-17 04:05:18.000 ERROR [native] Configuration file '$FGLAM_HOME/state/default/config/vm.config' does not exist and will not be loaded.
2014-06-17 04:05:19.000 FATAL [native] A Agent Manager is already running from the /foglight/fglam/state/default directory. Only one instance of the FglAM can be executed in this directory on this machine. If the FglAM has crashed, you can force a start by removing any file matching
'$FGLAM_HOME/state/default/.AgentManager-.pid' -
Resolution
- After stopping the Agent Manager, check if there are still FglAM processes running. If there are still processes running, give them a bit more time to shutdown. If that does not help, kill the processes manually.
- Now check if the file "vm.config" exist in "$FGLAM_HOME/state/default/config/". If it does not exist, please restore the file from a backup. See KB 115190 if FglAM version is 5.6.10 or higher as vm.config file was replaced. If not backup is available, Quest Support can provide a default file.
NOTE: The default file does not contain any specific settings you might have done in the past, so you will lose these settings and they need to be re-added manually. - Second step is to go to the folder "$FGLAM_HOME/state/default" (mentioned in the error) and delete the file: ".AgentManager-.pid'
Now the Agent Manager will start up again.
