LinkTracking Database Service Account locked out when Load Balancer is used
Description
In environments where a network load balancer handles requests to multiple Web-Front end servers an issue has been found with the service account password for the Link Tracking service. The account username and password are set however if a page redirector is used for links that have not yet been finalised then the redirector page will not work and the Link Tracking Service Account will become locked out.
Cause
The cause of this issue has been found to be with a defect in the NMSP tool when Network Load Balancers are used. NMSP encrypts the link tracking password by using the machine hostname however when returning to the page again it is possible that the load balancer will send the request to another Web Front-End server which will not match the encrytion key. This will cause the account to become locked out when the service attempts to authenticate the link tracking account.
Resolution
WORKAROUND
Open Central Administration from a physical Web Front-End server and not the load-balancer
Store the user credentials
In the custom redirector URL that is used with the link tracking, specify the physical server hostname in the URL and not the URL that would require the use of the load-balancer.
