"My Documents" folder has been renamed to "Username Documents" There are applications that require the "My Documents" folder to be named accordingly and they are now failing. Renaming the folder does not work.
Before migration and resource updating the workstation, the source domain had a Group Policy to redirect the "My Documents" folder to a User drive on the network. After the machine was resource updated and moved to the target domain, the "My Documents folder" is named "Username Documents".
If you don't already have hidden files view turned on please enable it in Folder Options.
1. Navigate to Documents and Settings | Username | My Documents.
2. Double Click to open the desktop.ini file. You will see an entry that says "owner=jdoe" or whatever username is in use.
3. Take the username off so that it just says "owner=" and then save the file.
4. Wait a little bit for explorer to refresh and then you should see "My Documents" reappear
This could be written into a script to resolve the issue on many workstations, rather than one at a time.
