SNMP cartridge GenericDiscoveryAgent can't discover any devices -
Description
Devices cannot be discovered by the SNMP GenericDiscoveryAgent.The GenericDiscoveryAgent can ping the devices.The hostnames are set for the devicesThe following message is reported by the GenericDiscoveryAgent when attempting to discover devices:"Unrecognized SNMP device due to SNMP request timeout (e.g. credentials error, target device doesn't support SNMP, device down, etc."Messages like the following are reported in the GenericDiscoveryAgent log:2015-12-29 18:49:55.670 ECHO <fb8be857-fbcf-4747-973d-295a8570e581/GenericSNMPAgent/5.8.5/GenericSNMPAgent/GenericDiscoveryAgent-agent> INFO [SNMP-Discovery-Task-Polling] com.quest.monitoring.snmp.agent.services.DiscoveryManager - Submit final discovery result(uuid = 1547c212-0778-4344-9cb2-b211bd0a1f30, devices = [ <deviceIP> Accessible : NULL_RESPONSE, <deviceIP> Accessible : NULL_RESPONSE, <deviceIP> Accessible : NULL_RESPONSE]). -
Cause
Port 161 was not open between the GenericDiscoveryAgent and the devices.Port 161 is used to send data to the GenericDiscoveryAgent initially. Port 162 is used to send traps from the target server to the FglAM SNMP Agent. Both ports 161 and 162 must be open. -
Resolution
Open ports 161 and 162 between the GenericDiscoveryAgent and the devices that will be monitored.
