When running Exchange Server Health tests against Exchange servers the following message may be obtained:
"Failed to retrieve performance counters"
Details:
Object is currently not available. Verify that the instance name is configured correctly. The performance counter may be disabled or is not installed. Verify that the process that starts the object counter is installed and started on the server, and that the counter is not disabled. Search the MS Knowledge base for further information related to disabled counters.
Performance counter:
Object name: MSExchangeIS Mailbox,
Counter name: Client Logons,
Instance name: _Total.
The performance counters seem to be missing natively in Microsoft Performance monitor
