Can Recovery Manager for Exchange restore in Emulation Mode from backups which have been taken using Backup Exec Granular Restore Technology (GRT) - also found as Granular Recovery Technology?
This can manifest as inability of the Backup Exec application to connect to the RME server which is running in Emulation mode.
An error similar to the one below may appear in Backup Exec:
"Job ended: Friday, October 15, 2010 at 4:29:16 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors"
while at the same time the RME server does not appear to be contacted at all by the Backup Exec server. It sits in Emulation mode waiting for Backup exec
STATUS
Recovery Manager for Exchange currently does not support Backup Exec Granular Recovery Technology. Enhancement Request TF00101722 has been raised for this feature to be included in a future release of Recovery Manager for Exchange
WORKAROUND 1
When performing backups deselect the option in Backup Exec to use this technology.
WORKAROUND 2
Restore from Backup exec to a Recovery Storage Group (RSG) or Recovery Database, and then use Recovery Manager for Exchange to extract data from the online Exchange database or RSG.
