Foglight Management Server is not starting up -
Description
Foglight Management Server (FMS) is not starting up. In the log files the following error occurs:

java.lang.RuntimeException: org.jboss.util.NestedSQLException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The TCP/IP connection to the host FMS_DB_Host, port 1433 has failed. Error: "Connection refused: connect. Verify the connection properties, check that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port, and that no firewall is blocking TCP connections to the port.".); -
Cause
SQL Server instance is rejecting the connection attempt from the FMS. The whole Foglight configuration is saved in the FMS database. If the FMS is not able to get the configuration from the database, it could not start up. -
Resolution
Make sure the SQL Server instance can be accessed. Reason for the rejected connection could be:
- firewall is blocking TCP connection via a specific port
- SQL Server instance is not accepting TCP/IP connections
Use the SQL Server Management Studio to test the connection to the Foglight database. Possibly the SQL Server administrator needs to be involved.
