Opening the Editor or Schema Browser results in the following error message being displayed:
"Access violation at address 01C688DF in module 'Toad.exe'. Read of address 00000280".
1. If you upgraded Toad or installed on top of an older version, please try installing the latest release of Toad into its own new directory. This will ensure that all the files Toad is using are new.
2. Rename your Desktop.xml. Test your issue. This will force Toad to regenerate your Toad desktop settings: (Applies to Toad 8.6.1 and older only)
a. Exit Toad
b. Locate the Desktop.xml file within the Toad home directory.
c. Right click on this and select rename - rename this to DESKTOP_OLD.XML
d. Restart Toad and retest the issue
3. Rename your Toad.ini file. Test your issue. This will force Toad to regenerate your option settings.
a. Exit Toad
b. Locate the Toad.ini file within the Toad home directory
c. Right click on this and select rename - rename this to TOAD_OLD.ini
d. Restart Toad and retest the issue
4. Go to View | Toad Options | Toolbars/Menus, under the display section, disable Show Window and Show connect strings.
5. Disable all connection colors in the database login screen (Color should be set to "none")
6. Enable "Check for access to DBA views" in View | Toad Options | Startup.
7. Disable all syntax highlighting options in View | Toad Options | Editors | Display.
8. Make no more than two database connections at once in Toad.
If there is a pattern or common window where you receive the "access violation" error, try searching the SupportLink Knowledge Base to see if that specific access violation has been reported and if there is a workaround or fix for it.
9. Rename the Toad user files folder:
NOTE: Make sure to back up your Toad Authorization Key and Site Message. You can get this from the Toad Help menu | Register Toad or Licensing or from your own records.
NOTE: If some of your folders / directories are hidden, open a Windows Explorer window | go to Tools Menu | Folder Options | View Tab | click “Show hidden files and folders” | click Apply | then click OK.
1) Fully Exit Toad
2) Go to:
XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR_USER>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\
Vista and 7:
C:\Users\<YOUR_USER>\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\
3) Rename the “11.x” folder to “11.x_OLD” (or 9.x or 10.x depending on your version)
4) Start Toad
5) When prompted to Copy Previous Toad user files, do NOT copy any previous settings (choose “Perform a Clean Install”).
6) Connect to ONE database ONLY (check the “Save Passwords” box in the login screen if you prefer), and then fully exit Toad again. This will finalize all the settings.
7) Start Toad again and re-test the issue.
