In a Windows / Unix clustered environment with a central FglAM, how can the host name that appears in HostAgents be changed to a preferred host name in Foglight 5.6.2?
In Foglight 5.5.8, where each monitored host has its own FglAM, this could be changed in the fglam.config.xml file:
< config:name > host_name < /config:name >
The preferred host name can be changed by going to Administration -> Tooling -> Manage Host Aliasing Rules.
However please be aware of the following implications:
1. In Foglight 5.6.2, Host topology objects have internal host IDs and system IDs in addition to names. The aliasing rule will have to account for that.
If the rule does not set the IDs correctly name changes may be ineffective since it's the IDs that are used to find the right objects.
2. The Infrastructure cartridge does not support clusters fully yet.
There are two known issues logged under bug IDs IC-287 and IC-123 to handle this. This work is scheduled for the next major release (not the upcoming 5.6.3 but the next release beyond it).
3. It is possible to set up the Infrastructure cartridge's HostAgents with a local FglAM as used in Foglight 5.5.8 to replicate the same agent setup.
