LiteSpeed version 6.x is backward compatible with backup files created with LiteSpeed version 4.8 or later
LiteSpeed backup files created with LiteSpeed version 4.5 or earlier is not compatible with LiteSpeed version 6.x
The following error will occur when restoring a version 4.5 backup file using LiteSpeed version 6.x
"The media family on device [Backup_Filename] is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE LABELONLY is terminating abnormally.
The media family on device [Backup_Filename] is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.
RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally.
WORKAROUND
Use the extractor utility of LiteSpeed version 5.2 or lower to convert version 4.5 LiteSpeed backup files to SQL Server native format and restore it using SQL Server native command. If you do not have the 5.2 version of extractor.exe, contact Support.
