How to upgrade SharePlex with multiple vardirs that shared the same product directory

Two options available for upgrading SharePlex with multiple vardirs that shared the same SharePlex Product Directory.

Option 1: Upgrading selective vardirs 

• Run downloaded *tpm file and when prompted for “Please specify the product directory location:”, select option “New installation…”

• When prompted for product directory path, enter new product directory path.

• When prompted for variable directory path, enter a new temporary variable ($SP_SYS_VARDIR) directory path.

• NOTE: Temporary $SP_SYS_VARDIR will be created during installation. Existing SP_SYS_VARDIR(s) will be upgraded upon starting SharePlex.

• Export SP_SYS_VARDIR environment variable to variable data that you wish to upgrade.

• Stop sp_sync_launcher if using copy/sync on the target systems before applying the SharePlex upgrade.

• sp_ctrl> stop launcher

• In sp_ctrl, use the set param command to stop DDL replication (if active) by setting the SP_OCT_REPLICATE_ALL_DDL parameter to 0.

     

  • sp_ctrl> set param SP_OCT_REPLICATE_ALL_DDL 0

  Important! Keep the setting at 0 until after you run Oracle Setup.

• Shutdown SharePlex on the environment you wish to upgrade.

• Export SP_SYS_PRODDIR environment variable to the 'new product directory path'.

• Run ora_setup using the existing SharePlex Oracle database user.

• Start sp_cop.

• Stop sp_sync_launcher if using copy/sync on the target systems before applying the SharePlex upgrade.

• sp_ctrl> stop launcher

• In sp_ctrl, use the set param command to stop DDL replication (if active) by setting the SP_OCT_REPLICATE_ALL_DDL parameter to 0.

• Shutdown SharePlex. 

• Run downloaded *tpm file, and when prompted for “Please specify the product directory location:”, select a number associate with product directory that you wish to upgrade. 

• When prompted for variable directory path, enter one of the vardir path you wish to upgrade. 

• NOTE: During the upgrade process all of the valid variable directories contained in the $SP_SYS_PRODDIR/bin/vardirs.log file will be upgraded regardless of which variable-data directory location is provided.

• Run ora_setup using the existing SharePlex Oracle database user for each of the vardir. 

• Start sp_cop.
