Log Reader returns the wrong number of transactions -
Description
When running a script (please see script attached) that inserts 10 million records and deletes 1 million records from a table and then using the Log Reader tool to display results, only 356640 transactions are generated and displayed in the DML/DDL and Transactions tab.
This works fine if the total amount of data inserted is 1 million records and deleted is 100,000 records.Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run the attached script.
2. Go to menu Tools | Administer | Log Reader.
2. Select "Native or LiteSpeed Backup File. Click Next.
3. Point the wizard to 'fullbackup.bak' and 'logreaderpokus_log.ldf' backups as defined in the script. Click Next.
4. Click the Transactions tab.
Expected results: all records deleted during the script execution are listed in the Transactions tab. -
Cause
Log Reader is set to read approximately N records instead of the entire log file.

Resolution
1. Go to menu Tools | Options.
2. Select Log Reader | SQL Server | General.
3. Check option "Read entire log file".
4. Click Apply.
5. Click OK. -
