I am getting "An unexpected error has occurred during check for updates" message when trying check for updates using the Quest Installer icon in the right corner of my task bar.
The Quest Installer you have is an older version that contains the Check for Updates feature, which has since been sunsetted.
In the product you want to check for updates for, select Help | Check Updates from the menu bar.
To stop from getting the message completely, run the installer for of the latest version of the product you are using and that will automatically update your Quest Installer.
