Diagnostic Server is connecting and disconnecting from the server every 15 seconds
Description
It appears that the Diagnostic Server does a login and logoff to the SQL servers every 15 seconds, performed by the Spotlight service with the user under which the service runs. Therefore, the security log of the Microsoft server is filled.
Cause
This is due to Windows WMI, not Spotlight
Resolution
Spotlight on SQL Server opens a single WMI connection to the host and keeps it open for as long as the host is monitored or until the host is shutdown. However the WMI system also seems to establish a connection from the Diagnostic Server host to the monitored host at the same time and then cyclically closes it and reopens it. Spotlight on SQL Server has no control over this additional connection.
This has been tested using only the WMI tools that come with Windows to make a WMI connection to a host so it definitely due to Windows itself.
