Customers report problems opening messages that have been secured using RMS or Rights Managed messages after they have been stripped by Archive Manager.
Archive Manager treats all messages that are secured using 3rd party encryption the same.
The message cannot be opened by our services, so it cannot be indexed, and cannot be opened unless the 3rd party tool/viewer is installed and is being used by an account that has rights to open the message.
When a message is stripped by Archive Manager, Outlook is no longer used to view the message attachment. We create a new message with the original message body as an attachment. This attachment has an RPMSG extension. by default Windows does not know how to open these messages, and must have a viewer installed.
RPMSG file is a Microsoft Restricted Permission Message. A restricted-permission message can only be viewed by the intended recipient and is subject to restrictions on printing, editing, or copying much like a rights-managed HTML file.
A viewer is required to open any RMS secured message using IE after it has been stripped by Archive Manager.
