Users are unable to view the Archive Manager custom forms (Aftermail) in Microsoft Outlook. When attempting to open archived items, they may see standard message forms instead of the Archive Manager interface, or the icons may not reflect the archived status.
Archive Manager relies on the custom "Aftermail" form to display archived messages and icons correctly within Outlook. Traditionally, this form is published to the Organizational Forms Library in the Exchange Public Folders.
In environments where Public Folders are disabled or not configured, Outlook clients cannot automatically retrieve this form from the Exchange server. Consequently, the form must be installed locally on each client machine using the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool.
The Archive Manager Outlook Components tool is an add-in that installs the Outlook Form on users' computers when public folders are not enabled on the specified Exchange server.
This tool installs an Outlook Add-in on local computers that will automatically install a copy of the form when a user launches Outlook. It is only necessary to run this tool once per computer. It can be managed by Group Policy.
Prerequisites
The Archive Manager Outlook Components tool can only be installed with supported versions of Archive Manager.
Microsoft .NET Framework: Version 4.7, 4.8, or 4.8.1.
Operating Systems: Windows 10, 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) or Windows Server 2019, 2022, 2025 (32-bit or 64-bit).
Outlook Versions: Microsoft Outlook 2019, 2022, 2024 (32-bit or 64-bit).
64-bit versions of Outlook require the Archive Manager Outlook Components x64.msi.
All other versions of Outlook require the Archive Manager Outlook Components.msi.
Installing the Outlook Add-in using Group Policy
The Outlook Add-in will be installed at the first reboot of the computer after the Group Policy has been applied. The Outlook Form will be installed automatically the next time a user logs in to Outlook after the Outlook Add-in has been installed.
By default, the Outlook Form is installed with standard mail icons. If you wish to install the Outlook Form with Archive Manager icons, see the additional instructions below.
Note: A reboot may be required to install the Outlook Form after installation of the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool, or if the form has been manually removed from Outlook prior to reinstalling the tool.
If you are reinstalling this tool on a client computer, you must delete the following file in order for the Outlook Form to be installed again:C:\Program Files\Quest\Archive Manager\Outlook Components\OutlookAddIn.default.config
Deploying the Form with Archive Manager Icons (Group Policy)
When installing the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool, on the Deploy Software screen, click Advanced, then OK.
Under the Modifications tab, click Add.
Select UseAMIcons.mst.
Installing the Outlook Add-in Manually
Log in to a computer with Administrator credentials.
Launch Archive Manager Outlook Components.msi.
Follow the prompts in the Windows installer.
The Outlook Form will be installed automatically the next time a user logs in to Outlook after the Outlook Add-in has been installed. By default, the Outlook Form is installed with standard mail icons.
Deploying the Form with Archive Manager Icons (Manual)
Log in to a computer with Administrator credentials.
From a command prompt, navigate to the directory where you have placed the Archive Manager Outlook Components.msi file.
Use the following command example for a 32-bit version to install the package with Archive Manager icons:
MSIEXEC /I OutlookComponentsInstaller.x86.msi FORMAMICONS=1
Important: Make sure that you use a 32-bit version of the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool with a 32-bit version of Outlook. If you use a 64-bit version of Outlook, then use the 64-bit version of the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool.
Follow the prompts in the Windows installer.
Note: If the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool was already installed, delete the "Aftermail" item from the Manage Forms section of Outlook before re-installing the tool. Additionally, uninstall any current Archive Manager Outlook Components tool from Programs and Features within Windows (ensure you only use the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool from your current Archive Manager version). If you upgrade Archive Manager, please upgrade the Archive Manager Outlook Components tool.
Installation Options (Silent Mode)
For manual installation, the Archive Manager Outlook Components MSI package can be run in a "silent" mode. In silent mode, no user interface is displayed, and it does not install the Archive Manager icons. To install with silent mode enabled, run the following command at a command prompt:
