Toad for Oracle Hangs on Launch Due to Automatic Connection Attempts
Description

When launching Toad for Oracle, the application becomes unresponsive or hangs during startup. This behavior occurs when Toad tries to automatically connect to multiple saved database connections.
Cause

The issue is caused by the AutoConnect setting being enabled in the Toad connection configuration file. When enabled, Toad attempts to establish connections to all saved databases during startup, which can lead to delays or hangs, especially in environments with many connections or slow network responses.
Resolution
You can disable the Autoconnect option for each connection by opening the Connection Window.

To do this, please go to:
Session Menu --> New Connection

From there, select the connection and uncheck the “Autoconnect” checkbox.

Also, you can disable the AutoConnect setting in the connection configuration file.

Steps:
1. Open Toad for Oracle.
2. Navigate to Help → About.
3. Click on Application Data Directory.
4. Locate and open the file named Connections.xml.
5. Search for the setting: AutoConnect="True"
6. Change the value to: AutoConnect="False"
7. Save the file.
8. Close and relaunch Toad for Oracle.
9. Verify that Toad starts without delays.

When AutoConnect is enabled, Toad attempts to reconnect to all previously saved connections during startup, which can significantly impact performance depending on network latency, database availability, and the number of configured connections. Disabling this setting prevents automatic reconnection and allows Toad to launch normally, with connections established manually as needed.
