There are two ways to allow the use of iPhones with USB Port Security. The permission blocking the iPhone is the MP3 Players permission. When this permission is set to Deny Full Control, it disables the “Apple Mobile Device USB Driver” under the USB controllers in Device Manager.
To allow the iPhone using the permission set, select Allow Full Control for MP3 Players. This would allow the use of all mp3 devices. If you do not want to allow all mp3 player devices, you would need to add a USB Device Exception for the iPhone.
You will first need to find the vendor ID and Product ID for the iPhone. This information will then be entered in the USB Device Exceptions tab in the USB Port Security element in the Desktop Authority manager.
To find the vendor ID and Product ID, you will need to connect the iPhone to a workstation with iTunes software installed and can access the iPhone. Open the Device Manager-Universal Serial Bus controllers and right-click on the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. Click on the Details tab, then click in the property drop down and find the matching device Id. You will find the VID and PID to add into the exceptions. Save and replicate. Permissions should be updated after next logon.
The workstation may require a reboot to re-enable the driver. If the iPhone is still not accessible or does not charge after the exception, log into the workstation as an administrator and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is enabled.
