Stop monitoring a database but maintaining history while decommissioning it (4230201)

When decommissing a monitored database, how to maintain the history while not collecting any data?

When you stop data collection for an agent, the agent no longer collects information from the monitored host. Only activated agents can collect data.

You can stop or start data collection for an active agent using the Agent Status dashboard.

The agent can have its data collections stopped or be deactivated. Changes made to the data-collection status of an agent by following the instructions below will not be persisted if:

• The server is restarted.
• The agent exits a blackout period.

To stop data collection for an agent instance:

1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, choose Administration > Agents > Agent Status.
2. On the Agent Status dashboard, select the row containing an active agent instance whose data collection you want to stop.
• The Collecting Data icon () indicates that the agent is collecting data.
• To select multiple agent instances, press the CTRL or SHIFT key while selecting the rows containing the instances for which you want to stop data collection.
3. Click Stop Data Collection
• The Stopping Data Collection dialog box appears, showing the status of the activation process.
• After a few moments, in the Agent Operation dialog box, in the Status column, a green check mark appears, indicating a success of the operation.
4. In the Agent Operation dialog box, click OK.
• The Agent Operation dialog box closes and the Agent Status dashboard refreshes, showing the Not Collecting Data icon () in the agent row.

To deactivate an agent instance:

1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, choose Administration > Agents > Agent Status.
2. On the Agent Status dashboard, select the row containing an active agent instance that you want to deactivate.
• To select multiple agent instances, press the CTRL or SHIFT key while selecting the rows containing the instances that you want to deactivate.
3. Click Deactivate.
• The Agent Operation dialog box appears, showing the status of the activation process.
• After a few moments, in the Agent Operation dialog box, in the Status column of the Progress table, a green check mark appears, indicating a success of the operation.
4. In the Agent Operation dialog box, click OK.
• The Agent Operation dialog box closes and the Agent Status dashboard refreshes, no longer showing the Activated () and Collecting Data () icons in the agent row.
5. If you no longer require the agent that you deactivate, you can remove it from the monitored host.
