Can backups taken by NT backup be used by Recovery Manager for AD as a source when doing an online restore? What functionality, if any, is not available?
A .BKF file created using NTBackup can be registered and used in Recovery Manager for AD (RMAD). The native NT backup format is similar to backups created by RMAD, except that backups created by RMAD can offer some additional features such as backups of cross-domain group memberships and optional compression and encryption of the backup file.
This means that Recover should be able to restore most aspects of users, groups and other AD objects, but may lose cross-domain group memberships, i.e. group DL-Test in Domain A has members from Domain A as well as Domain B, group DL-Test is restored (it had been deleted), members from Domain B may not be restored. If backups are done using Recovery Manager for AD and use these are used as your source for the restore, this issue shouldn't be encountered.
Applies to all versions of Recovery Manager for AD.
