Installation error 1622, "The installation of component TOAD_Standalone has failed" (4226206)

When attempting to install Toad 9.5, I get the following error message:

"The installation of component TOAD_Standalone has failed.

Products affected by this failure are;
Toad for Oracle
Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle
Knowledge Xpert for PL/SQL
Knowledge Xpert for Oracle Administration

The installation will now abort."

This is an installation issue that could have various causes like:

1. installing with a limited user privilege
2. OS and installer not updated
3. problems with a single component bundled with the installer
4. conflicts with the specified installation directory

WORKAROUND 1:
Try installing without selecting other products to install at the same time. Only install Toad for Oracle first. Then install other applications like Knowledge Xpert and SQL Optimizer one at a time after each successful install.

WORKAROUND 2:
Specify a new installation directory, different from the default C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle.

(In Windows 64bit OS systems, it would be advisable to try installing outside of the Program Files directory, if there continues to be installation issues.)

NOTE: This workaround has been know to work for Toad 9.7.2 regardless of bit version of OS.

WORKAROUND 3:
Install Toad with the msi. Follow the Toad for Oracle v9.5 Getting Started Guide to perform a silent install:

1. Download the packer.exe (reference SOL37788)
2. Download Toad 9.5 Commercial Installer.exe
3. Follow steps to unpack files on page 25 (page 17 of the Getting Started Guide).
4. Run the Toad_Standalone.msi file.
5. During installation, de-select or place a red X on the Citrix option, to perform a full installation.
(Note: If you have install all 3 sub items, just un-install through AddRemove Programs and try again.

Note: When installing with MSI and limited privileges and/or Vista, you may need to use " allusers=1"
Example: ToadforOracle961SetupTrial allusers=1

WORKAROUND 4:

Uninstall the Quest Installer itself by going to Start | All Program | Quest Software | Quest Installer | Uninstall Quest installer.

This error may occur with any component in the installation.
