How do you migrate from a trial install to a commercal? How do you uninstall the trial? (4225792)

How do you migrate from working in a trial install of BMF to a commercal install without losing test scripts and repository data with the new install. How do you uninstall the BMF trial?

The commercial version can be installed without uninstalling the trial. Make sure to install the commercial in it's own directory.

First install the commercial version.

From the trial, back up the settings and back up the old data repository.

Setting:
These are usually saved to C:\Documents and Settings\<personal folder>\My Documents\My Benchmark Factory\Scripts by default, unless you specified otherwise. There is an option to specify the directory to save your script under Edit | Settings |General -- Script directories. You may want to verify that this was not specifically redirected in the BMF options.

In general your BMF settings should be stored in that directory and can be carried over manually if not automatically detected by a new install. If BMF trial was uninstalled first, this directory is not removed and should still be there.

Once the \My Benchmark Factory directory is backed up from the trial, it can be applied to the new commercial version, in the same directory.

Repository:
If uninstalling the trial, the repository is removed. Please back up before uninstalling, or install new version before uninstalling.

The repository can be managed through Start | All Programs | Quest Software | Benchmark Factory | Repository.

But if the DSN for MySQL could not be seen by the respective Repository managers refer to this support link for further info about backing up the repository data.

Once backed up, when the commercial version is in place you can apply the back up repository info into the newly installed commercial version.

Once the settings and/or respository data is backed up and applied into the new install, you can uninstall the trial.

Uninstalling BMF:
Start | All Programs | Quest Software | Uninstall Quest Products. Select Benchmark Factory for Databases in the list and click "uninstall". This will also remove the associated repository. But it will leave some general settings directories.

After the software is uninstalled, you can further clear out the remaining following folders if desired:
1. C:\Documents and Settings\<loginID>\My Documents\My Benchmark Factory
2. C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Benchmark Factory for Databases
