Group Policy templates fails to import ADM or ADMX files when Desktop Authority is installed on a server using the English (United Kingdom) regional settings.
The Windows regional settings on the DA (Desktop Authority) server is set to English (United Kingdom) which causes DA to create an “en-GB” folder to house .adml files when imported through the console. Microsoft does not have an en-GB folder for its .adml files. So DA cannot copy the files over because the destination does not exist.
This issue can be resolved by manually copying over the “en-US” .adml files to DA’s “en-GB” folder. To do this, follow the steps below:
1. Find the Administrative templates folder in Windows (see below). Or download them from Microsoft’s website (Additional Information).
a. ADMX files (2008/2008R2/Windows 7 ) - %Systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions
b. ADM files (2000/2003/XP) - %windir%\Inf
2. Copy all the .adm /.admx files from the Administrative templates folder to the (C:\Program Files (x86)\ScriptLogic\Desktop Authority Manager\TemplateFiles) folder located on the Desktop Authority server.
3. In the Administrative templates folder; open the “en-US” folder.
4. Copy all the .adml files located in the en-US folder to the C:\Program Files (x86)\ScriptLogic\Desktop Authority Manager\TemplateFiles\en-GB folder located on the Desktop Authority server.
5. Close and re-open the Desktop Authority console, the Group Policy templates should now be accessible.
