MessageStats places very little load on the Exchange servers it gathers from. For the Tracking Log task, the valid tracking logs are copied local to the MessageStats server and parsed locally. The only impact to the Exchange servers is the copy operation.
For the other gathering tasks, MessageStats is no more resource intensive than a user logging into their mailbox and using it.
