Description

After upgrade to version 12.0, Spotlight is raising Long Running SQL alarm reported from Diagnostic Server on production monitored servers:
"SQL - Long Running SQL: SPID 70 has been executing for 20 minutes 12 seconds. Hostname: CTSQLMON01 Program Name: Spotlight Diagnostic Server XEventsReader (Monitoring) Status: suspended Login Name: VIKING\svc_spotlight_admin Database: master Query Text: SELECT type, data FROM sys.fn_MSxe_read_event_stream (@source, @sourceopt) .."
Resolution

WORKAROUND:
These SQL script do no affect the monitored server or monitoring them. Use these steps to suppress the alarm:
1. Open Configure | Alarm Actions and create a new rule
2. Check 'The alarm is' condition and click 'alarms' link at bottom. Expand SQL Server and check 'SQL - Long Running SQL' alarm and OK
3. Check 'The details contain' condition and click 'following phrases' at bottom. Click Add and enter 'XEventsReader' without the quotes and OK and OK again.
4. Check 'Suppress Alarm' action and click OK to save rule
STATUS:
Issue fixed in the current release of Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise. Latest version of Spotlight can be downloaded from here.
