Can a GPO be recovered to a different location or an offline area? -
Description
Can I recover a GPO to an offline area and specify a different GUID, for example if the GPO was manually recreated before restoring? This would help to compare the settings to the backup GPO and the manually created one. -
Resolution
This is not possible as RMAD restores GPOs to AD and SYSVOL and there is no option to restore to a different location.
You can try using the Compare and View Report functions of the GPO Restore Wizard to see if it shows any changes between what is in AD (manually recreated GPO) and what is in the backup:- Start the Group Policy Restore Wizard
- Click next through the wizard until you get to the Group Policy Object Selection screen
- Check the GPO and click Compare. If it shows as Different, click View Report
