The Exchange Tracking Log task fails with an Out of Memory error (4219647)

While processing some of the tracking logs, the Exchange Tracking Log task fails with an Out of Memory error. In addition the Tracking Log Archive task associated with the failed Exchange Tracking Log task fails as well leaving the tracking log file in the Tracking Log Cache location on the MessageStats server.

There is not enough memory for all of the running tasks to complete. As MessageStats is a 32bit application, it can only use a maximum of 4GB of memory. If all of the running tasks are using all of the available memory, new tasks will fail with an Out of Memory error.

WORKAROUND:

1. Increase the size of the Tracking Log files on the Exchange server to 500MB. This will improve the performance of processing the Tracking Logs. To change the Tracking Log size, run the following Powershell command from an Exchange Management Shell:
   
   Get-TransportServer | Set-TransportServer -MessageTrackingLogMaxFileSize 500MB
   
2. Install an additional Task Execution Server and split the Tracking Log tasks across both servers. Please see the following KB Article for instructions on how to install an additional Task Execution Server:
