The Archive Manager Message Retention service is designed to run based on the schedule set in the Archive Manager Retention Policy editor. The retention policy editor is not running according to configured schedule.
WORKAROUND:
For Archive Manager 4.8 and older:
Create a batch file and run it at a scheduled time for the Archive Manager Message Retention Policy Service to run on schedule.
2) Save the batch file to a local drive on the Archive Manager Server.
3) Click Start | Run and type control schedtasks.
4) Add the RetentionService.bat as a scheduled task to run at the desired interval.
5) Verify the account running the scheduled task is the Archive Manager service account which is a local administrator on the Archive Manager server, typically named 'ArchiveMgr_Service'.
6) To avoid any conflicts between the scheduled batch file and any previous retention schedules ensure you set the startup type of the 'Archive Manager Message Retention Policy Service' to 'Disabled'.
STATUS:
Issue fixed in version 5.0. The latest version of Archive Manager can be downloaded at: https://support.quest.com/download-product-select
For large environments it is recommended to initially adjust your policy to take smaller chunks, and shorten the time, incrementally, to the time that you wish to keep going forward. Start at 5 years for instance, then shorten in 6 month intervals until you reach the time frame that you would like to use.
Please be aware that the Retention Service uses the SQL Temp.db to write some information. In large environments this could take up GBs of space.
