When installing Spotlight on Messaging you receive the message "The user executing the installer does not have permission to check domain accounts. Please run the installer as a domain user."
During the installation of Spotlight on Messaging during the Service Account Setup. To validate the account entered in this portion the installer will try and contact the Domain Controller which is running the PDC Emulator role.
Please confirm that from the machine Spotlight on Messaging is being installed on that it can contact the Domain Controller holding the PDC Emulator role on Port 389.
Note: When specifing service account credentials during the installer you must use Domain\User format where Domain is the netbios name of the domain. Using the DNS name like Domain.com\User will result in this error.
