The Schema version is identified by the directory synchronization agent:

1. Ex 2000/2003 schema, Ex 2000/2003 store selected under Exchange Options of QMM Sync properties: See Solution 24845.2. Ex 2007 schema, Ex 2007 store selected under Exchange Options of QMM Sync properties.The following searches are further executed:
Starting LDAP asynchronous page search: DN = CN=NAME,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=local
Search filter: (&(objectClass=msExchRecipientPolicy)(purportedSearch=*))
Attributes to be requested: gatewayProxy msExchPolicyOrder purportedSearch Name objectGUID
Address Books are enumerated
Search filter: (&(objectClass=addressBookContainer)(purportedSearch=*))
DSA retrieves the list of policies from AD and verifies if object falls under any of its LDAP filters (purportedSearch). If object falls under multiple policies then highest priority is selected and applied based on msExchPolicyOrder attribute.3. For an Exchange 2007 schema, Exchange 2000/2003 store selected under Exchange Options of QMM Sync properties, the DSA would execute the above search (not exact same base DN but similar) to enumerate policies and address lists, and will then follow the legacy Exchange 2003 logic as outlined in Solution 24845.
