Description:
The article talks about upgrading NetVault 7.XX to Netvault 8.xx and avoiding database problems that have been seen when doing this procedure otherwise.
The database goes through a lot of changes between NV 7 and NV 8 and it is a good Idea to do a NetVault database backup and restore before following the procedure in the Installation/upgrade manual.
Please follow the Instructions below when doing the NVDB backup and restore as this way any existing NVDB problems you may have should be resolved and will not cause problems during the upgrade.
1/ Take a NVDB backup to tape and/or VTL. VTL is the quickest. Make a note of the library name and tape name/barcode.
2/ Stop netvault
3/ Navigate to …\NetVault\db and move MediaDatabase and ScheduleDatabase folders to another location. Make sure that if you move the databases to a different location on the same disk that you have enough space.
4/ Restart NetVault and a new MediaDatabase and ScheduleDatabase will be created.
5/ Add the library back in device manager and scan the tape with the NVDB backup on it.
6/ Restore the netvault database
7/ Check all working as expected and follow the upgrade procedure in the manual at URL :
