Date: 18/11/2009
Affected NV Version: ALL
OS Version: Linux - Windows
Plugin version: FS versions below 7.5.9
Application version: N/A
Symptoms:
During the second phase of a backup job the message “Failed to seek to record at -2063094236 in table 'Backup' is shown.
Further down we can see that the duplication fails with the following error:
Error 2009/08/14 14:48:05 12198 Data Plugin SRVNETVAULT Failed to get backup record, cannot duplicate backup
Error 2009/08/14 14:48:05 12198 Data Plugin SRVNETVAULT Failed to duplicate backup
Workaround:
This has been resolved with NVBU V 8.5 build 39
upgrade server and clients with this build
the database table limit has now been increased to 4GB
Workaround for NVBU versions pre NVBU 8.5 build 39 :
create a new media database and keep a copy of the old one.
1)Make sure no jobs is running
2)Take note or screen of your devices (names, configuration etc..)
3) Make a note of the tapes (bar codes- label) holding the last netvault database
4)Stop the service
5)Rename the mediadatabase folder
6)Keep a copy of the renamed mediadatabase folder
7)Start the service
8)Recreate your backup device, make sure you name them exactly as before
9)Scan only most recently used tapes. If you re-scanned all the tapes we rebuild the index from tapes and put them in the records\backup file. It will then be as big as before and as result the phase 2 will fail again.
Another workaround (If the customer has other means of backing up the system state) is to not backup the system state with netvault until a fix is released
If a restore is required from tapes that are not scanned yet, bring the old database back online in order to identify the required tapes. Once you have identified the tapes then bring b
