Some issues necessitate increasing the media reserve more than the standard template will allow through the NetVault GUI. Use the procedure in this solution to reconfigure it.
To modify the media reserve please do the following:
1. Right click on the library in NetVault Device management. and select Modify.
2. In the Modify Library Window, go to Drive Selection tab double click on the server controlling the drives.
3. Select and double click on the drive so that a picture of it shows up on the right
4. Below the picture - in the Type menu- you should see the template used for the drive(s), for example:
i.e HP StorageWorks LTO-4 Ultrium 1xxx
Make a note of the template
If you have multiple drives - make a note of each drive's template.
5. Go to the configure tab, right click on drive(s) - and make a note of your drive configuration (best thing is to take take a screen shot of each tab). Also make a note of your library’s name. It is important you keep the same name and configuration as before because you will be deleting the device.
6. Close the Edit library windows – without saving any changes.
7. In Device Management, right click on library and select 'Delete.'
8. Stop Netvault service on the machine where the devices are located
9. Browse into the netvault installation directory and go to the ... NetVault\devices\drives folder.
Locate the folder with the name of manufacturer of your drive – i.e HP
Within the folder locate the template file – with the extension “tpl”, i.e for the HP ultrium 4 the file is : hpult4xx.tpl
10. Open and edit the file – change the Media Reserve value to 30720 :
[SCSI Tape:Media Reserve]
Value=30720
Save the changes.
11/ Now go back to the folder \devices\drives
Locate the file named scsi-tape.tpl . Check the following section.
[SCSI Tape: Media Reserve]
Tab Name = Configuration
Label = Amount of media reserved at end of tape (MB)
Type = Range
Range = 10,8192
Value = 25
Width = 6
Notice the Range value is 10,8192. This means the maximum media reserve is 8GB. To be able to increase it, i.e. to 30GB modify the range
Range = 10,30720
Save the changes.
Restart the Netvault Service.
Re-add the library and drives like before – check the media reserve and change it to 30720 if it not set already.
