Cause:
This error is a result of NetApp bug 447533. Please contact NetApp for further information on this bug.
The following procedure has allowed customers to workaround NetApp bug 447533;
On the NetVault server modify the file "{NetVault install directory}\Netvault Backup\config\ndmpversions.cfg" as follows;
Under the heading of [NetApp-V4-6.4:Mover Server] add the following lines;
Bad Blockno=TRUE
Bad Mode=TRUE
Bad Recordno=TRUE
For example...
[NetApp-V4-6.4:Mover Server]
Tape Postfix=a
Allow Nonndmp Transfers=true
Bad Blockno=TRUE
Bad Mode=TRUE
Bad Recordno=TRUE
...and then remove and re-add the filer and device as follows;
To remove an added NDMP Server, perform the following steps:
1. Open the NVBU Backup window.
2. On the Selections tab, double-click the NVBU Server. Alternatively, rightclick and select Open.
3. In the list plugins, right-click NDMP Client and select Open.
4. Right-click the target Filer, and select Remove Server.
5. In the confirmation window, click OK.
To add the target Filer as an NDMP Server, perform the following steps:
1. Click Backup on the toolbar or Large Buttons panel. Alternatively, on the Operations menu, click Backup.
2. On the Selections tab, double-click the NVBU Server. Alternatively, rightclick and select Open.

- Double-click NDMP Client
- Right-click NDMP Client and select Open
4. In the NDMP Server window, configure the following parameters - Name, Address(es), Port, Account, Password and if UTF-8 conversions are required.
5. Click OK to locate and add the Filer.
To add the Filer-attached drives, perform the following steps:
1. Click Device Management on the toolbar or Large Buttons panel to open the Device Management window. Alternatively, on the Administration menu, click Device Management.
2. On the Add menu, click Auto-Configure Device.
3. In the Automatic Device Configuration window, configure the following parameters to begin scanning:
- Device Type (Standalone Drive), Client (Normally the NetVault Server)
4. To scan for devices previously ignored using the Do Not Ask Again for This Device option, right-click the machine to which the device is physically connected, and then select Clear List of Ignored Devices.
5. Click Next to continue.
6. Verify the device details and click Yes to start the configuration procedure.
Important Note: Note: This work around disableds metadata and transfer consistency checking. There may be a risk with data integrity if this workaround is used unilaterally with all implementations of the NDMP and SMTT plugins.
It is recommended that this workaround be put into place for the purpose of restoring data only if and when the restore failure is encountered. It should be removed/reversed once that restore operation is completed.
