Backup fails with "Failed to acquire the shared resources. (Skipping VA-based VDDK HotAdd. VMware (4047665)

When attempting a VA-based hotadd or VA-based LAN backup of the VA itself it fails with the following message:

"Failed to acquire the shared resources. (Skipping VA-based VDDK HotAdd. VMware does not support HotAdd of the proxy.)"

Note: It is not advised to back up the Virtual appliance. This takes away from resources that can be used to backup production VM's

The Virtual Appliance cannot perform a backup of itself

Use another transport protocol to backup the Virtual appliance

Edit the job associated with this backup (You may need to give this VA its own backup job)

On the transport selection of the backup wizard, select the following transport:
Custom Transport Selection - On this vRanger machine - tick 'LAN'

If you have VMware licensing of Enterprise or Enterprise Plus, you may want to use hot-add, if so, select the following:
Custom Transport Selection - On this vRanger machine - tick 'Advanced (SAN / hotAdd)'

Note - If vRanger is installed on a VM, it may be worth dividing up hotadd jobs to utilise both vRanger machine hotadd and VA-based hotadd
