When a tape is labeled, it will have a unique MID number given to the tape. This can be viewed by creating a report with the media id field. Duplicate entries for the same tape happen when two tape entries have the same label, but have different media IDs.
There are several ways that this can happen.
1. A restore of the media database was done, but a tape was blanked and relabeled between the time when the NVDB backup was done and when it was restored.
2. There is a problem with the drive bay assignments and the use barcodes as labels options is selected. If the drive bay assignements is mixed up and multiple jobs are kicked off which can use blank media, NetVault can become confused about which tape is being loaded in which drive. It can then label the tape using the wrong barcode as the label.
3. Tapes have been moved from one NetVault server to another. Tapes get blanked and then moved back to the original server.
You can right click on the offline versions of the tapes in Meida Managment and remove them. Online versions will have a green dot on them.
In case number 2 you will need to correct the drive bay assignment problem first.
