In certain instances, a physical tape/NetVault media will need a complete rescan and re-index into the NetVault Database. A complete rescan is different then a normal scan of a tape, in that all information in the Media Database regarding the problem tape is completely removed before scanning the tape. Normal scans only "append" scan to the tape index that NetVault has already identified.
1. In the NetVault GUI, select Device Management
2. If any jobs are running, please stop or abort them
3. Right click on all the tape drives and choose UNLOAD
4. Once all tape drives are unloaded right click on the library arm and select OPEN DOOR
5. When the door is open go to NetVault Media Management from the main NetVault home screen
6. In Media Management right click on the tape that is causing problems and choose REMOVE
7. Once the tape is removed from Media Management it's index will be deleted from the Media Management database
8. Go back to NetVault Device Management right click on the library arm and choose DOOR CLOSE
9. The tape you just removed will immediately be loaded into the libraries tape drive and NetVault will be begin an initial CHECK to determine the header information
10. Once the header information has been identified, a new index will be created
11. Right click on the drive one more time and choose SCAN this will do a complete scan if the tape importing all backup information into the Media Database.
Following this procedure, you will find that the tape will be rediscovering its indexes and inserting these back into the database which are essential for incremental type backup and restore purposes.
