Description: Backups fail with the error "Failed to initialize Backup Stream
Symptoms: Backups fail with the error "Failed to initialize Backup Stream
This usually occurs when there is a Firewall involved, DMZ or just an OS firewall... you will usually get a red error (with a "white exclamation" in the middle of it) in your logs, prior to the "Failed to Initialize Backup Stream". If you double click this particular type of error, you will get more helpful information (data), as to what the issue may be.
There is usually a "Channel Error" then a Device write Error... showing the following error information within it.
NET :2156 216 0 53048 NetBindTcpSocketThroughFirewall(0012FA50, 0x080, Devices TRUE)
NET :2156 218 0 53048 Got list of '1' ports
MEDWRITE:2156 177 0 53048 State: WRITE CONNECT
MEDWRITE:2156 179 1 53118 Data Channel Connect: FAILURE
The second "Net" message, showing "Got List of '1' ports - is the indicator showing that there is a firewall issue and/or a miss configuration within the NetVault Configurator Firewall Tab.... as the correct output that you should be getting is "Got List of '0' ports... showing that there is no misconfiguration anywhere and the communication between the server/client(s) and firewall are working fine.
If you do get this error, double check that your backup server and client(s) are configured identical, within the NetVault Configurator's Firewall tab's ports, as well as your firewall/dmz. Also, double check that there are no OS firewalls enabled/running.... this will help prevent this error.
